The endless knot is a design that comes from Tibetan Buddhism. It has been described as "an ancient symbol representing the interweaving of the Spiritual path, the flowing of Time and Movement within That Which is Eternal. All existence, it says, is bound by time and change, yet ultimately rests serenely within the Divine and the Eternal."
The Ankh is an ancient Egyptian symbol that represents the key to the hidden knowledge of eternal life. The loop represents eternity, and the cross represents death. The combination of the two is the key to unraveling the mysteries of existance through the unification of the two opposite truths.
Yin Yang Flower of Life
The Yin Yang symbol describes how seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world, and how they may give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another.
In Hinduism, Om (also spelled Aum) is a Hindu sacred sound that is considered the greatest of all mantras. The syllable Om is composed of the three sounds a-u-m (in Sanskrit, the vowels a and u combine to become o) and the symbol's threefold nature is central to its meaning. It represent several important triads:
- The three worlds - earth, atmosphere, and heaven
- The three major Hindu gods - Brahma, Vishnu, and Siva
- The three sacred Vedic scriptures - Rg, Yajur, and Sama
Sri Yantra Mandala
A yantra is a visual Mantra, something to focus upon during meditation to assist in deepening and strengthening medtitative states. The Sri yantra, also known as Sri Chakra, is called the mother of all yantras because all other yantras derive from it. It is a representation of the cosmos at the macrocosmic level and of the human body at the microcosmic level (each of the circuits correspond to a chakra of the body).
The Sri Yantra is a configuration of nine interlocking triangles, surrounded by two circles of lotus petals with the whole encased within a gated frame, called the "earth citadel". The nine interlocking triangles centered around the bindu (the central point of the yantra) are drawn by the superimposition of five downward pointing triangles, representing Shakti ; the female principle and four upright triangles, representing Shiva ; the male principle. The nine interlocking triangles form forty three small triangles each housing a presiding deity associated with particular aspects of existence.
The Hamsa is a protective symbol that defends from the "evil eye" and originated in the middle east. It has specific meaning, all represented by numerical systems relating to the five fingers in Judaism, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism and Hinduism. It is worn as a protective amulet or hung on a wall to protect the wearer or the space from negativity.
The Pentagram is a symbol of a star. Always with 5 points (one pointing upward), each has its own meaning. The upward point of the star is representative of the spirit. The other four points all represent an element; earth, air, fire, and water. All these things contibutite to life and are a part of each of us.
These birch plywood ornaments come on a loop of waxed, braided cotton cords for hanging. They come in a sanded, clean finish with no burn marks on either side! The designs with etching detail only have that detail on one side.
